At 8.30 p.m. local time Saturday night, more than 4,300 cities across 126 countries turned off their lights for WWF’s Earth Hour. Canada was among the leaders with more than 300 cities, towns and municipalities participating. More than 10 million adult Canadians are estimated to have taken part – official polling results will be ready later this week.

Josh Laughren, Communications Director for WWF-Canada, is available for comment today. As the lights went off in cities across Canada last night, he was in the middle of the action at Earth Hour Unplugged, the official event at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto where more than 10,000 people celebrated Earth Hour.

After Earth Hour, WWF hopes people will continue to build planet-friendly actions into their everyday lives and will leverage the global support for this initiative to push world leaders to keep climate change on the agenda at the G8 and G20 meetings in Ontario this June.

I played cards by candlelight with my in-laws. Was kind of fun.
